Bunk Bed

Violet recently moved into the bottom of the bunk bed. She and Amelie are both quite pleased.

We're about to do this with Jack and Max. I can't wait, though I wonder how much sleep they'll be getting being in the same room together! :):)

They look like they're having a ball!

We are going to be purchasing bunkbeds soon... are these an ikea purchase? do you like them? how does Amelie do with being up top?

Yes, this is from Ikea. It's only 4 feet tall and technically a loft bed. Violet is on the floor on a mattress that fits inside of the frame. Our requirement was that Amelie be able to climb up and down the ladder without any assistance before she could sleep on top and that took about a week. Initially we tried to have Violet on a traditional box spring and mattress on the bottom (which you can see in the picture), but that was too tall. She fell out twice the first night. But the bigger problem was that she couldn't sit up in the bed without hitting her head. So, we went and bought another mattress from Ikea (you have to use one of theirs for the top) Also, they sell a tent you can put on the top. We have a cape cod style home which has slanted ceiling upstairs, so we opted not to buy the tent. With out it, the bed fits perfectly under the slant. Overall, we're very pleased with the setup.

I actually wanted to ask about the bunk bed too but I see my sis in law beat me to it! I've seen that bed from Ikea and really like it. We've been looking at one from there that is full sized but aren't ready to make the switch yet. Were your girls sharing a room already? Ours are still separate so it would be a big change. How do they do with sharing?

Megan-
The girls have been sharing since Violet was put in the crib at two months old. Overall, they do really well. The little noises that they each make don't seem to bother the other. Also, they go to sleep really well, fortunately. Violet really doesn't like it if she has to go to bed without Amelie in the room. Amelie doesn't take a nap anymore and she falls asleep before be leave the room, just about! However, we do have a pack and play set up downstairs that has been used fairly often when Violet decides she wants to wail in the middle of the night. We'll see how things go when Linus enters the room. Yes, all three will be in one room! (Hence the reason for the bunk beds.) Our house has four bedrooms but two are downstairs--one used as a dining room and the other as a tv/guest room. We know this won't work on a super long term basis, with the whole boy/girl thing, but we hope we can get several years out of it--until we can put an addition on the house or something!

That's impressive! I kind of wish we had gotten our girls used to being together at a young age, but we have the space (for now) so imagine we'll wait a little bit. Can't wait to hear how all three of them do!
